Philip Rhodes' design no. 447 was very prolific, whether by the number of ships built from it (more than the 12 initials that Nevins built in New York in 1939 for members of the Fisher Island Yacht Club under the name Rhodes 27 feet), whether because of the new designs that were derived from it. The first of these was in 1944, an improved version, the super 27 feet, to which the Adventuress belongs and which had a longer cabin, improving interior habitability, but years later, Rhodes, based on the lines of the 27 feet, created his famous design no. 632, which was called Rhodes 29 feet and its retractable keel version, n. 639. Many of them were yawl rigged and of all of them, the great designer had dozens of units built in Germany by Abeking & Rasmussen and the Adventuress was born at the shipyard of Lemwerder. The construction of American ships abroad (Germany and Formosa were the most appreciated places) responds to the search for the best quality at the most affordable price. The Adventuress was originally named Branta and belonged to Harvey Picker (1915-2008) who became famous in the US for his research on X-rays, focused on patient well-being. Picker sailed with the Branta, along the east coast of the USA until well into the 1960s and sold the ship, which changed its name to Adventuress and the navigation zone on the west coast. They say the European Picker Institute has a photo of the founder aboard his beloved ship. The Adventuress returned in the late 1990s to the American east coast and there was bought by an English couple who restored her thoroughly at the beginning of the new millennium, to give her a long life again. The ballast and deadwoods were dismantled to reach the keel, which was found in excellent condition. The electrical system was overhauled and the electronics modernized. With her the couple traveled to Spain and the Adventuress had its base port in Denia for several years. Today her American owner sails with her in the Mediterranean, participating with satisfaction to the regattas of classic boats. The Adventuress is in excellent condition for maintenance and ready to continue her already long marine life with full health.
