When Mario Diano founded his shipyard in 1979, the news came as a surprise in the Italian nautical world for its originality: he was going to build large yachts in wood! In a world that had already switched to fibreglass and decreed the closure of many traditional shipyards, unable to match the competition. And Diano was able to assert itself on the market, year after year, with boats of the highest quality, offering every owner the pleasure and exclusivity of owning a unique object, each one different from the others. Each Diano is built in a specific way, with an absolutely spectacular craftsmanship and level of finishing and with a design that, within the traditional guidelines of planing yachts, has its own personality, unquestionable and very elegant. A personality that keeps them modern, beyond passing fashions. In 2007 Mario Diano retired and sold his shipyard to the Rizzardi Group, who maintained the shipyard's founding philosophy and the quality of the work of its staff. Unfortunately, the world crisis that broke out that year had a serious impact on the group, which closed down in 2011. The Gioia is thus one of the last Diano built and among the largest in the shipyard (behind the 33-metre Santa series). Her elegant and dynamic design blends taut lines and refined curvatures with fine wisdom. On deck, she offers different levels for sun and shade: spacious outdoor entertaining areas in the bow and flybridge and under cover in the large aft saloon are shared with entertaining and socialising areas in the aft cockpit and in the large indoor dinette, overlooking the sea. The cabins are spacious, particularly the amidships owner's cabin, which occupies the full beam and is accessed by a private lobby in front of the stairs leading up to the saloon, and the high-level guest cabin at the bow, which benefits from very elegant furnishings that follow the curvatures of the hull in a very artistic manner. In fact, all the finishes are made with a care and quality that deserves the appellation of art. The construction follows the very high standards of the shipyard: keel and stem of laminated wood (ten 20 mm planks), solid wood sternpost. Six solid wood stringers and solid wood shelf. The engine room bilge stringers supporting the engines are reinforced by a steel structure that completely covers them. Armour-plated plywood (i.e. double ply) with Khaya mahogany outer planking for the hull construction. Half metre high plywood false keel. Plywood topsides. Ash frames, mahogany beams, teak deck and superstructures of solid wood, laminated and plywood as required. The Gioia (which means joy and also jewel in Italian) is in excellent maintenance and seaworthy condition. Many accessories have been recently replaced and the mandatory maintenance guidelines for this type of boat have been constantly followed to keep her at the top of her condition.
