The Stewart after whom this boat is named was a young German man who wanted to build the boat of his dreams, so he could set sail around the world. Due to a limited budget, he had very wisely opted for a classic deep-sea fishing boat design: the Essex Smacks, sturdy cutters of various lengths, capable of withstanding the storms of the North Sea. Stewart never got to fulfil his dreams because, sadly, he died young, and his widow sold the boat to the current owner, so that he might at least have the chance to fulfil them posthumously. Hence the boat’s name, which honours the memory of its builder. Today, the Stewart’s Secret is in very good condition, as its owner has looked after it with great care and expertise. He has recently fitted it with a bow thruster, which, whilst taking away some of the romance of traditional manoeuvres, provides greater safety and precision in confined waters. It is a boat of modern construction but old-world character, well-suited to globetrotting offshore sailors on a moderate budget.
